The use of drones to map locations, sites and track progress of jobs is increasing. Here’s an article from last fall about an engineering firm’s use of drones.

Some things to keep in mind with drones:

  • 1.) There are size limits – above which drones must be licensed by the FAA
  • 2.) General Liability Policies do not cover drones
  • 3.) Professional Liability Policies do not cover drones.

Coverage for drones is becoming more common, but it’s something you need to seek out specifically. If you have construction, engineering or architect clients, we recommend you ask them if they incorporate the use of drones in their operations and make sure to address those exposures explicitly in their insurance program. .
